Convenience and Time Savings
One of the primary benefits of a home EV charging station is the convenience it offers. Charging at home means you can plug in your vehicle overnight, ensuring it's ready to go every morning without needing to visit public charging stations. This is especially beneficial for Phoenix Metro residents who commute in areas like Downtown Phoenix, Scottsdale Airpark, or Tempe Town Lake.
Cost Efficiency
Home charging can be more cost-effective than using public charging stations. In Phoenix Metro, electricity rates for residential customers are typically lower than those at public charging stations, and Salt River Project (SRP) and Arizona Public Service (APS) often provide special rates for EV owners.
Additionally, charging at home allows you to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates, further reducing costs—a crucial consideration for energy-conscious homeowners in Gilbert or Glendale.
Increased Property Value
Installing a home EV charging station can increase your property value. As EVs become more common in areas like Ahwatukee or Biltmore area, potential homebuyers may see a charging station as a valuable addition.
Environmental Benefits
One of the most compelling reasons to install a home EV charging station is its positive environmental impact.
Practical Tip: Consider pairing your EV charger with a home solar system to maximize environmental benefits and reduce energy costs.
Data Insight: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that driving an electric vehicle can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 50% compared to conventional cars.
The main failure point in EV home charging is the outlet itself. If you can take that out of the equation and hardwire it directly into the EV home charging station your decreasing the chance of something wrong happening.
In my opinion the Chargepoint is the best for hardwired option.
Yes its cheaper to charge at home than at a charging station. A charging station is a business and they have to make a profit off the same energy you get at home.
The main difference is charging speed. Level 1 is the slowest charging speed and most likely won't need anything from an electrician because you can plug into a basic outlet in your garage. Level 2 is higher charging speed but will require a Licensed electrician to come in direct power from the electrical panel to where you want the charging station to be.
You might need to upgrade your home's electric panels or circuits for a Level 2 charger, as it requires a 240-volt outlet.
Cost can vary. Please read our EV Installation Guide for more on pricing.
While we may not be officially certified by Tesla, our Licensed team at Livewire Electrician has extensive experience installing Tesla Wall Connectors and other EV chargers. We follow all safety standards and local electrical codes to ensure a professional and reliable installation for your home.
